Useful Information

Vaccines

No vaccine is mandatory, however it is advisable to check before your trip, especially if you are leaving a risky area. A valid certificate for cholera and yellow fever is advisable.

Tetanus vaccines are generally recommended on long journeys. Poliomyelitis is virtually eradicated in the UAE and hepatitis is very rare and can be avoided by taking precautions. Hepatitis A is transmitted through food poisoning and contaminated water, Hepatitis B, C and D through sexual contact, use of non-sterile syringes and needles and blood transfusions.

Visa and Passport

The application for a tourist visa in the United Arab Emirates is made through the intermediation of sponsors who are normally responsible for the visitors for the duration of their stays in the country.

1- Hotels or travel agencies: the visitor must contact a hotel in the United Arab Emirates and, when making the reservation, request his visa, informing the date of arrival, the number and time of the flight, in addition to providing copies of the first pages of the passport, which must be valid for at least three months. The same hotel will be in charge of sending a form to be filled out and returned (via fax or e-mail). The person applying for the visa must keep a copy. Upon arriving in the country, the visitor will find his visa at the airport, and must present the form – or the visa number – to the authorities.
2- In the event that the person has friends or relatives living and working in the United Arab Emirates, they may provide a visa. Some restrictions and conditions apply.
3- On the job: in case of employment contract, the contracting company will be in charge of providing the visa, which will have the same duration of the contract in question.
4- On business: the company with which the visitor will make contacts will take care of all the procedures for issuing the visa. It is important to note that in all cases, the visitor must have the visa number in hand before traveling to the United Arab Emirates.
The tourist visa is granted directly at ports and airports to citizens of certain countries – see list below. The visa is granted for a period of one month, renewable for another 30 days. An entry fee is charged to all citizens of these countries except those in England.
